Commercial Management

  • Member of Divisional Board contributing to a major improvement in business ratios (moved from 7 to 12 per cent ROS in 2 years, 30% improvement in Trading Profit to £18m).

  • Devised, developed and implemented the division's 'People Plan' focused around the need to improve service and morale; through attraction strategies, communications, working conditions, recognition awards and personal development.
  • Created a five year site development plan targeted at improving business and process efficiencies, department integration and poor morale.

Management and Leadership

  • Led a varied Services and Facilities function with 72 staff, a revenue budget of £6m and a capital budget of £2m.
  • Membership of the Company's senior HR Forum setting direction, policy and focus across a £2.6bn turnover business.
  • Set up and managed an European HR function with shared services and a 'hub and satellite' strategic resource.

OD and Performance Improvement

  • Introduced an organisational structure to an European business moving from 26 independent country units to a 4 area 'hub and satellite'.
  • Rationalised a service function from 13 departments down to six with a 10% staff reduction and a real budget saving of 6%.
  • Took the lead in setting up a performance focus based upon a capability approach to people management. This included purpose designed training and development programmes, formal management reviews, and a performance planning process.
  • Created an innovative personal development programme based upon work books and facilitated meetings.

Project and Change Management

  • Project managed a major people realignment programme; looking at reducing head count (7% achieved), retraining in the skills of the future, and a focus on learning and personal development.
  • Specified, implemented and project managed the introduction of a new computerised pensions system.
  • Supported businesses, managers and employees through periods of significant change through individual and management coaching, communication programmes, presentations and staff involvement/empowerment strategies.
